No sex, no romance, but the knowledge that I could not hang out and do normal things like that made me sad. I guess that he seemingly enjoyed that time together was new to me.
The kind of language we use and the tone in which we use it make True Support. It creates the 'feel' of the place. It determines how members experience the site and how comfortable and accepted they feel. It also determines how members interact with each other. Harsh, judgmental words create a harsh, judgmental atmosphere in a forum. One where bullying is accepted and enabled. One where clique forming happens.

We want to avoid this happening to True Support. We want it to be a place where you can figure out your own path in your own time and without any preconceived expectations or judgments.

The Mod Team does its best to ensure the kind of terminology used on other sites to diminish married persons and extramarital relationships does not take hold on True Support. The word filter function is one asset we have to help us with this. If a word has been partially replaced by asterisks, this is the word filter in action. It's part of the on-going effort to keep True Support as the kind of forum we want.

We ALL need to be vigilant in maintaining this atmosphere and in respecting our fellow members, in following the Community Guidelines, if we want True Support to remain a kind and supportive place.

To maintain the supportive, loving and caring atmosphere of True Support the following Community Guidelines apply to all members posting on our forum:

* True Support is a support group for all participants in an extramarital relationship, be it the other man/woman, the married man/woman, or the married other man/woman. The only requirement for membership is being or having been in an extramarital relationship.

* Discrimination on the grounds of race, sexuality or religion will not be tolerated.

* We strive to be a sounding board, a support system, for our members. We share our experiences and our opinions - but in the end it is up to each individual to decide what is best for them, whatever that may be. Continuing or ending either the marriage or the EMR is their decision to make. Thus, we do not try to push them in one direction or the other with regard to any decisions they are making. We will support each other regardless of decisions made.

* True Support does not espouse any specific or doctrinal view on extramarital relationships or the people involved in them. We do not hand out labels or terminology with which to diagnose each other or our loved ones, nor do we tell others how to handle their lives. While we may discuss what is right for us, we do not presume it is right for others.

* True Support does not acknowledge any authorities concerning EMRs or relationships in general, be it individual members, professionals, authors or society. No member's input is less or more important, significant or valid than another's and thus should not be held as such.

* We do not indulge in bashing of the betrayed spouse, nor of the married person/other person, nor of men/women in general. At times we may have a need to vent, but, if so, we do this without the use of degrading language or nicknames and in the area designated for it, the threads OP Rant and Rave and Scream with me and MP Rant and Rave and Scream with me.

* If a poster wishes to recommend and/or discuss literature and other media, the place for this is the sub forum Media Resources. Quoting material from other sites or publications must be done in accordance with the US Copyright Act which describes fair use of copyrighted work. The source of a quote must be clearly stated and if the source is to be found on the internet a link must be provided. No quotes may exceed a maximum of 250 words. Posters may not link to or quote material from a commercial site, ie a site which stands to benefit either directly or indirectly from traffic directed to them from True Support.

* We offer emotional support only. Financial and other material support is prohibited.

* No talk of suicide is allowed in the forum. If you or someone close to you is currently in crisis or in an emergency situation, contact your local emergency number or a counselor nearby.

* The moderators make judgment calls and these are based on the tone and/or the content of a post. If you are unclear about why a particular post has been edited or deleted, you are free to address the moderation decision in a thread to the Mod.
The abbreviation TL;DR (too long; didn't read) can be used as a tool for posters to summarize their long posts into a short paragraph at the end (or beginning) of their long post for those of their readers who don't have the time or the inclination to read a long post. In this way the original poster can get more readers and replies, simply by posting a long and a short version of their post.

Just post the acronym TL;DR ahead of your summary to indicate where posters who just want to read the short version should start reading.

We've noticed there's been a lot of confusion among our members concerning which links are okay to post and which are not. No wonder - the Mod Team has been confused too! We've spent a lot of time discussing this and it is becoming clearer to us:

What do our Guidelines say?

* Posters may not link to or quote material from a commercial site, ie a site which stands to benefit either directly or indirectly from traffic directed to them from True Support.

What does this mean?

Below is what the Mod Team goes by when determining whether a post or a link is breaching the Guidelines:

External links must be non-commercial, provide empirical data relevant to the discussion, and preferably be sponsored by an accredited educational institution or link to a peer-reviewed publication.

As stated in the Guidelines, "a commercial site" is considered any site which stands to benefit either directly or indirectly from traffic directed to them from True Support. Traffic in itself is beneficial to a site even when there is no commerce going on on the site. Obviously, True Support wants its readers to keep reading on TS and not be directed to other sites.

Posting sufficient information which enables posters to navigate to a commercial site even when an actual link is not provided is considered equal to providing an external link.

But what about the section Media Resources? Can I share a link there?

Our Guidelines state:

* If a poster wishes to recommend and/or discuss literature and other media, the place for this is the sub-forum Media Resources.

Recommending/discussing books, movies and songs concerning EMRs is allowed in this section. To facilitate members sharing songs/movies that speak to them, the sharing of such links to YouTube is permitted.

If I'm not allowed to share an external link, how am I able to share something I found helpful without breaking the Guidelines?

We understand there are a lot of cool, inspirational things said on the internet, things our members might want to share with each other. TS is however not the place for this. Our purpose is to support people in EMRs by sharing our own experience and thoughts. The content of TS should be exactly that: content specific and exclusive for TS, sharing what you have learned about yourself and your self development rather than explicitly linking to or quoting directly something you've seen or read on the internet.

This forum was set up to support *all* our members and hopefully help them gain insight into their relationships and themselves. This leaves us with a responsibility to make sure the forum caters to the needs and challenges of the three different groups of EMR participants: MP, MOP and OP.

So, whilst we understand that some posts or topics can be very difficult subject matter for some, with a high 'trigger' effect, we would urge all members who feel they wish to post/reply on such threads to remember our basic tenet here at TS. Namely, that we are a support forum for ALL parties involved in an EMR and we support our members from where THEY are and not where we feel they *should* be.

Thus, we would remind all members that if you feel you cannot stay on topic or you feel triggered by the subject matter, if you feel you can't be supportive or have nothing much to add, then don't post on the thread.

Remember that the purpose and intention of True Support is to be a place for self-discovery, for sharing our experiences, for working on our own process of evolving on our path through life. Let's leave space for everyone on our forum to discover their own truths rather than try selling them ours.

It is not allowed to post your email address on the boards.

We understand why you may wish to communicate off the boards. It is a natural inclination to want to have contact with other members here who may resonate with you for whatever reason.

However...
We cannot guarantee that everyone here is who they present themselves as being and not all our members post publicly. Many just read. We cannot guarantee that everyone has your best interests at heart. Be pro-active in your own privacy/security and do not try to circumnavigate the Moderation Team's decisions. We are NOT making them to irritate you or be mean. We make them with YOUR best interests at heart. We will delete any email addresses posted on the boards.

Just as importantly, this is a support forum, meant for ALL its members. It exists by virtue of the fact that its members post about their problems, questions and feelings ON the forum. If we all pick and choose what we post and form special friendships off the forum and use that as our outlet, we deprive other members and ourselves of valuable feedback. If enough members do that, there IS no forum.
We strive to keep True Support a place of inclusion for all, a place of kindness and support for all.
