By its very nature an extramarital relationship is initially bound to feel insecure. The married person is likely to be ridden with feelings of guilt. To sustain the relationship he/she must lie at home, hide the newly evolving emotions of falling in love, betray the one he/she has vowed to love and stand by forever.
It's likely the married person will time and time again try to unsuccessfully end the relationship. Unsuccessfully because the emotions and the bond growing are already too strong.
Or the other woman/man will try to break it off. Equally unsuccessfully.
As a result there will be frequent lows when it feels like the two are torn apart and the future of the relationship uncertain. Then again when the participants of the extramarital relationship find themselves back together there will be highs, as the love and emotions are so strong they can not keep away from each other in spite of the relationship being societally unacceptable.
Once the storms are ridden out and calm has been established the relationship will even out and the bond be even stronger as a result. This may take years but eventually the participants of the extramarital relationship will learn to trust the bond between them, that the other is there to stay, and the days of the roller coaster will be looked back upon and remembered as a distant past.
