"Sir the engine room is taking on water!"
"Ensign, seal the bulkhead."
"But SIR!, Grigs and Flanigen are down there!"
"I said seal the bulkhead. That's an order."
"But SIR!, they will drown!"
(Captain points pistol at ensign and says calmly)
"Ensign, you will obey my order."
(ensign seals bulkhead).
Meet Ice Man. All men have this person within them. He comes out when the man is compelled to perform some act which is contrary to his emotions. When you see Ice Man from a normally caring person then you can be sure that what is occurring is exactly the opposite of how the person would like it to be if his emotions were consulted. The emotions are turned off because, if they were not, the ice man could not do what he feels compelled to.
Many causes of course, often involving a sense of duty. This is why I suspect OW see Ice Man more than BSs. Because society declares a "duty" to the BS. In a society where the duty was to the most recently loved you might find that the BS experienced Ice Man more.
