We've noticed there's been a lot of confusion among our members concerning which links are okay to post and which are not. No wonder - the Mod Team has been confused too! We've spent a lot of time discussing this and it is becoming clearer to us:
What do our Guidelines say?
* Posters may not link to or quote material from a commercial site, ie a site which stands to benefit either directly or indirectly from traffic directed to them from True Support.
What does this mean?
Below is what the Mod Team goes by when determining whether a post or a link is breaching the Guidelines:
External links must be non-commercial, provide empirical data relevant to the discussion, and preferably be sponsored by an accredited educational institution or link to a peer-reviewed publication.
As stated in the Guidelines, "a commercial site" is considered any site which stands to benefit either directly or indirectly from traffic directed to them from True Support. Traffic in itself is beneficial to a site even when there is no commerce going on on the site. Obviously, True Support wants its readers to keep reading on TS and not be directed to other sites.
Posting sufficient information which enables posters to navigate to a commercial site even when an actual link is not provided is considered equal to providing an external link.
But what about the section Media Resources? Can I share a link there?
Our Guidelines state:
* If a poster wishes to recommend and/or discuss literature and other media, the place for this is the sub-forum Media Resources.
Recommending/discussing books, movies and songs concerning EMRs is allowed in this section. To facilitate members sharing songs/movies that speak to them, the sharing of such links to YouTube is permitted.
If I'm not allowed to share an external link, how am I able to share something I found helpful without breaking the Guidelines?
We understand there are a lot of cool, inspirational things said on the internet, things our members might want to share with each other. TS is however not the place for this. Our purpose is to support people in EMRs by sharing our own experience and thoughts. The content of TS should be exactly that: content specific and exclusive for TS, sharing what you have learned about yourself and your self development rather than explicitly linking to or quoting directly something you've seen or read on the internet.
